Driving Lights on trucks allowed
High Beam Headlamps According to UN-R 48 and StVZO
What are the specified headlamps?
The headlamps in this regulation are high beam headlamps, as governed by UN Regulation No. 48 (UN-R 48) and Section 50 of the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO). They are designed to illuminate the road over long distances at night.
How many units are permitted?
Two or four high beam headlamps are required. Additional pairs are allowed, but no more than two pairs may be lit simultaneously.
What mounting heights must be observed?
No specific mounting height is prescribed for high beam headlamps. However, general installation rules apply, and the lamps must be installed at the front of the vehicle.
What special conditions must be observed?
- High beam headlamps may only be switched on simultaneously or in pairs.
- The maximum luminous intensity of all simultaneously activated high beam headlamps is 430,000 cd (identifier max. 100).
- When switching to low beam, all high beam headlamps must turn off simultaneously.
- An activation control with a blue indicator light is required.
- The alignment in the longitudinal direction at the front of the vehicle is correct only if the emitted light does not directly or indirectly impair the driver.
