Control panel, remote control, or switch – what’s the best option?!
When choosing a control unit for mounted equipment, there are two distinct solution types:
1. Permanently installed solution – e.g., for fleet vehicles designed for long-term, robust operation.
2. Mobile solution – e.g., for leased vehicles or those that need to be restored to their original state after a limited period.
In the first case, we usually recommend that customers use the switch slots already integrated by the vehicle manufacturer, which are covered by blanking plates and remain unused. These switches can be purchased cost-effectively from the vehicle manufacturer and provide a very durable operation. Additionally, they blend harmoniously into the vehicle’s existing dashboard layout.
In newer vehicles—especially passenger cars—it is often the case that no manufacturer-provided switch slots are available. For customers wishing to avoid drilling unsightly holes into the dashboard, we recommend using a control panel. This expands the switching capacity to up to 8 functions (toggle or momentary switches). It also allows for professional control of acoustic warning systems, as commonly required in emergency vehicles.
In the second case, all solutions that come with a cigarette lighter plug are naturally suitable. If products such as front flashers or lightbars are to be used, they can also be controlled via a control panel or wireless remote switch. The latter avoids the need to route cables to the cockpit.
